WhiteFeather has been invited to present on a panel on Bio-art, Literature and Music alongside Sophie Stévance (ULaval) and Marc-André Brouillette (UQAM), on Thursday, 16th November from 11:30am -12:30pm. This activity will be followed by a discussion period moderated by the members of the research team and the steering committee for the Responsible Research-Creation project (RCR). The panel will be presented at the Milieux Institute for Arts, Culture and Technology at Concordia University, as part of the larger overall RCR project.

“Research-creation (RC) is an emerging field at the interface between academic research and creative activities and is defined by the Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQ) as “research activities or approaches favouring the creation, interpretation of literary or artistic works of any kind.” Researchers in this heterogeneous field must therefore satisfy requirements of dual expertise which may sometimes conflict. As a result, researcher-creators may face very different challenges from colleagues in the rest of the academic world. So far, little is known about the nature of the issues encountered by these researchers in relation to the responsible research conduct (RCR, or scientific integrity), what differences there may be, or how the Canadian RC community responds to institutional policies or provincial / national guidelines.

The results of this international study – supported by a Concerted Action grant from the FRQ – will allow us to identify the RCR issues and challenges of RC, the perceptions of RC researchers on the application of RCR principles, and the needs for and gaps in existing policies (institutional and national) to promote RCR education and awareness.

The project will culminate in the 2018 launch of a series of on-line open access tools for both the RC community and supporting actors, such as university RCR directorates, research ethics boards, and granting agencies.”
